Some bacteria affect water movement by producing substances that help bind soil particles into small aggregates. These stable aggregates improve water infiltration and the soil’s water-holding ability.
Pesticides and ploughing upset the microbial population and destroy the humidity retaining aggregates that they form.
The use of pesticides reduces the moisture retaining capacity of a soil and makes irrigation more necessary.
Irrigation transports pesticides into groundwater which we use for drinking water are the cause of immunosuppression, hormone disruption, reduced intelligence, reproductive distortion and cancer.
