Our local sane scientist, Dr. Graham Hall, formerly of Bangor University and Coleg Meirion Dwyfor, Dolgellau, did his Phd on the forest hydrology of Coed Y Brenin, a great peice of work. He used a load of guauges- rainfall (every 3 minutes), temperature, humiduty etc, spread throughout the forest, including a load here at our place, in the middle of the oldest part of the plantation. Among other things, he was able to show that our place was the wettest part of the forest during the summer, receiving up to 40% more rain than Ganllwyd, only a mile away as the crow flies. He reasoned that the moist air of our regular westerly winds met the moist air rising from transpiration of the forest trees, meaning rain began first, and sometimes only, at our place. I put on my rain hat and consider that a Good Thing! A really good post Steve.
