I agree 100% and love how reducing our use of supplements, cosmetics, and personal hygiene products is good for our health and is also part of degrowth which is absolutely essential for planetary health.
Good stuff. Worth saying that there is good evidence that at higher latitudes, with shorter day lengths in winter, vitamin D supplements can be important, particularly for folk with darker skins. Also, recommended Vitamin B12 levels in the UK are now looking low compared with some countries. In Japan the government issues free B12 supplements to all its citizens, something which is now thought to be related to their low rates of dementia, although this has not been demonstrated clearly yet.
Totally agree. When I was in my teens and found the skin on my hands was drying up in winter I started using hand lotion every day and found my hands just got drier and drier so I stopped using it. Along with this is the myth that we need to shower and wash our hair every day which increases water consumption. Apparently showering with soap destroys the microbiome which can mean people do get smelly if they don't keep doing it. Such is the pressure to shower daily that some people try to market prebiotic products so you can keep doing it. At one time I tried washing my hair every day purely because shampoos started being marketed as 'so mild you can wash your hair every day' so I began to think maybe I 'should'. It didn't do my hair much good. I've spoken to a couple of hairdressers who've confirmed it's totally unnecessary and was a ploy to sell more shampoo. Advertising can be very persuasive and at one time I nearly got sucked in to buying a reusable mug for take out coffee and beeswax wrap as a replacement for cling film until I very rarely got take away coffee and don't use cling film anyway!

Thanks. I'm not saying that supplements are always bad, I am saying that most of what is promoted by the Wellness industry is rubbish :-)
